The word ‘Get-together ‘itself,
defines a lot more about its significance than the actual literary meaning of
it. If we talk from the perspective of Indians, especially about we the
Bengalis, then ‘get together’ or picnic means a lot to us. Firstly, hearing the
word picnic itself reminds us of 25th December or the New Year eve
when most of the people at least once in a year plan to go out and hang around
with friends and families. As we live in an environment which is dynamic in
nature and contains six phases of weather in a year, certainly holds some uniqueness
in each. Every season brings a new flavor to our mind including the festivals
celebrated along with its appearance.
As soon as we hear the word spring,
it brings an aesthetic image of nature in our mind. The beautiful song of
Cuckoo birds, the pleasant fragrance of beautiful flowers and above all the
greatest festival of Bengalis ‘Durga Puja’ make the season so special to all of
us. Similarly the sudden thought of ‘winter’ also reminds us of ‘churches which
are immensely decorated on 25th December, then bursting crackers
while welcoming New Year. However, winter doesn’t quite hold its true magnitude
to us if there is no mention of picnic.
After a span of scorching hit
throughout the summer, the sense of arrival of winter, depict some relief in
our mind. Winter, doesn’t merely mean an ordinary season to us but it reflects
joy and pleasure with the thought of Santa Claus, zoo, get-together which are
an inevitable part of it. While, taking about picnic, we must not forget the
mental pleasure that all most all of us experience after a long break from work
for a day or two to have fun. If we talk about the stress that all of us go
through in our respective professional life and which causes a pile of frustration
in us, ‘picnic’ no doubt gives us a chance to overcome all frustration and
revive all our energy.
To children, picnic means an
opportunity to spend a day in an open field while running and playing under sun
with their mates. Just like, adults, kids also need a break from their regular
schedule of unprecedented amount of pressure from their educational process.
Besides, women too get a break from their daily household activities and spend
times gossiping and doing many other fun activities with their family members.
Moreover, get-together, gives us
a chance to come out of our regular schedule and feel the beauty of nature
while spending some quality time with our families. Apart from the actual
visible impact of picnic which is definitely a means of joy to all of us, it
also has some economical values which certainly helps to maintain the
equilibrium of our economic system.
Without going much into the
details of economic part, here I feel it is quite obvious to mention that considering the size of our
country it is a salient factor to keep a smooth flow of cash in market in any
means. Thus, very tactically our ancestors had set-up the religious festivals all
year long to keep the cash flow available in the country. As we the Indians are
welcoming and embracing in nature, therefore we don’t hesitate to celebrate any
festivals be it ours own or belong to some other religious community. We take
part in it with our heart open and celebrate it, forgetting all the religious
separation and political barrier.
