There is no doubt on it that ‘change’ is an inevitable part of the time.
But there is also no denial of the fact that culturally we have changed so much
with time which is perhaps beyond our imaginations. In the 21st
century, money is given the utmost importance, even a few years ago when parents
used to look for a groom for their daughter; they used to generally consider the
educational and cultural background of the family of the groom to be the right
choice for their daughter. The situation has indeed changed a lot, things have
become ups and down, instead of education money is now being given the highest
importance. Thus, quite naturally, unlike past days we can’t see the
traditional milieu in the marriage ceremony in Bengali families these days.
I am not at all trying to make any distinction between the two periods
and place one above the other. My endeavor is just to draw the reality in front
of all, where replacing the cultural richness, Bengalis have placed money above
all. Going beyond that if we try to highlight the relationship between a
teacher and student of this generation we can certainly find out a sheer
dissimilarity from the past. Nowadays students no longer possess a similar kind
of respect for their teacher as they had in past days. Now the teaching
profession has merely become a means of earning a few bucks for a certain class
of people.
