Presently growing numbers of wine shops have become a great concern for the society.
Considering the culture of our state, it’s quite an unlikely factor of us to
adapt to western lifestyle, where consuming alcohol is a traditional factor.
Given a consideration to our heritage and culture, it can easily be observed
that in past, such practices of drinking wine was never encouraged, although
there were some exceptions during the pre-colonial era.
In our Bengali culture
drinking alcohol and consumption of any harmful drugs have always been the notion
of criticism. Looking back we can see that even a decade back our young
generation were never encouraged or allowed to drink so openly the way it can
be seen nowadays. In addition, the growing number of wine shops in our locality
is definitely one of the major reasons for the growing concern for our society.
While a few years back it
was an unusual scene that a teenager would come home under the influence of
alcohol, these days not only boys but girls are too equally taking part in
alcohol consumption. The very unfortunate fact is that the misguidance of few
families where parents indirectly encourage girls to consume alcohol to opine
the equality rights between male and female. Besides, these days in marriage and
other occasions, alcohol consumption is regarded as a symbol of certain class. Therefore,
this unhealthy cultural practice induces a negative impact on our society and
culture.
The government is trying
their best to bring the situation under control, but our unorganized administrative
system and loopholes in our laws, became the impediment to maintain the situation. In
some cases corruption in the police departments cause hindrance to sustain the
law, also in few matters it can be observed that evading all kind of government
tax obligations many bars and local alcohol shops are continuing with their business
in our locality.
Hence, such factor brings about a great indiscipline in our society, along with jeopardizing the taxation
system of Indian government, it persuaded the young generation to consume
alcohol. Since, the illegal alcohol shopkeepers are exempted from all the taxation
and other licensing process they can sale the product at much cheaper rate and
also it entitles them to set their shop in localities which not only caused social
dismal but encourages the young generation to get addicted to alcoholic in a
rapid manner.
As a consequence of the
factor we are heading towards an unsocial civilization where progress will be
quite stunting in the near future and peace will be hampered. While trying to analyse
the process the most common factor that we may come across is that the corruption
in the administrative department, especially few high designated municipal
personnel and local police authorities who compromise on all their
responsibilities in order to fulfill their personal purpose are actually accountable
to encourage such wrongdoing in our locality.
It is a very common phenomenon
for all of us that government employees like police or minister in our area, whose
monthly remuneration is very nominal but having an enormous amount of property,
although they had no inheriting wealth from their ancients previously. Here, the
most unfortunate feature is that they are being the part of the law department,
exploiting the government the most. In our complex administrative or
constitutional system, there is no framework to eliminate such corrupted people
from the department and likewise, our complicated legislative and tax system have
the streamline to turn all their illegal property into legal.
However, it is an
indispensable fact that to get things into place our administrative as well the
legislative body have to work more efficiently and at the same time our
government has to ensure public participation and protect the citizens’ right
to protest against any corrupted activity of any governmental worker.
Having discussed and
accepted the promptness of our government to maintain discipline in the
society, the participation of general citizens should also be given similar
importance as without the productive move of the citizen no progress in the
society is possible, be it brining the unprecedented practice of alcoholism or corrupted
government administrative under control.
Well analysed and very well written . Good to see that you not only addressed the the issues but prescribed possible remedies too. Good job, keep on writing.
