The rigorous transformation in
our culture has brought about a distinctive change in the modern society.
Unlike the previous generation, girls of 21st century are more competent
in all spheres of life. Mostly, in the professional sector a recognisable shift
could be traced, as per as girls engagement is concerned in the present days.
Rewinding back to few decades ,during the last period of twentieth century girls
contribution in the professional sectors were very much limited and they were
deemed to be responsible to conduct only household work. But in the present era
the usual circumstances has taken a notable shift with girls becoming an
integral part of the development process of our society.
In Indian aspect, girls these
days are no way given less priority than boys, although in the rural areas till
now girl child is considered to be a curse and constrained to limited resources
which cause hindrances in their progress. Our governments, both central and
state level have taken many initiatives to eradicate the stigmas attached to
girl child and as an incentive there are many govt. schemes like ‘ Beti Parao
Beti Bachao, ‘Kanyashri’ etc. have been introduced in the recent years. With the advent of social-transformation in
urban and semi-urban areas girls are now simultaneously competing with boys and
likewise there are many families where girls are the head of earning source for
their respective families.
It has become a quite
well-acquainted fact that girls nowadays are into professions like police and
defence, they have also set their position farm in the political arena of the
nation. Girls are no longer subject to taking care of house-hold matters but
they are equally important like any man in the society. There are thousands of
girls who are pursuing many respectable job responsibilities, be it in IT
sectors, managerial work, doctor or nurse etc. Thus it would be fair enough to
mention that girls in our country are quite an integral part in almost all the
domain, be it government or private sector. In addition, government have also
introduced many vocational training courses for the upliftment of girls. We can
also see that in many underdeveloped areas girls are being employed by small
manufacturing companies for packaging and other handicrafts related work. Hence
their incorporation in financial aspect has also enabled them to contribute
economic support to their family and help their next generation to continue
with education.
Having said that girls have had
some remarkable contribution to the process of economic and fundamental prosperity
of the nation, we must admit the fact that girls in our society are still
vulnerable and deprived of basic rights. It is sad but true that till now in
some rural areas girls are not being sent to school for basic education and
forced to get married at very early age. In such community girls don’t have any
respect in terms of having any say in any developing activity related to their
family or society. On the other hand, the pangs of poverty and hunger often
pushed them to choose brothel life or commit many anti-social activities for
money.
To achieve growth girls
contribution for any developing country, is a prerequisite factor, thus, we
being a developing nation must ensure girls freedom. Here freedom is not merely
a conception of following western culture, but freedom of right for education,
health and capabilities. While talking about freedom, it deserves a mention
that in the urban areas girls these days tend to perceived their freedom in
some limited materialistic aspects only, whereas the actually concept is far
broader than is being regarded. ‘Freedom’ is not only a limited resource which
enable girls to do things like boys to stand their ground in the society, but
It is a process which enables holistic development of girls and make them
eligible to be an indispensable part of the civilization.
Thus, it is highly expected that
in order to build a civilized society girls should be an integral part of the
journey and on the other hand girls too have some responsibilities to respect
their own culture and usher in the next generation to the right direction
towards a better future.
