Last day, while sitting at our office in my cabin,
a sudden thought forced me to think about the fact that if it is the word ‘replacement’,
which is making all the changes that is taking place in our lives secretly. Old
is always replaced by the new and as per the rule of time old is gradually faded
away in our memory. I was sitting in the room where our previous manager, whom
I used to call Susanta Kaku, used to seat. He was quite an interesting person
with plenty of humor in his character. Being a manager he had the personality
but he was overall a well behaved person and rarely reflected his professional
image while talking to us. It has been quite a few months that he had an
unexpected set back in his professional life which eventually prompted him to
step down from his designation, leaving the responsibility to a worthy one.
His departure was anyway an unexpected event,
considering his contribution to the company; I feel, he might have deserved
something better. Nonetheless, without discussing much about that I must focus
on describing the person in details. He was around 5ft ’9 inch tall, well
structured and a strong personalities at his sixties. I have never seen a trace
of moustache or beard on his face as he was very neat and clean in his appearance
and most of the time preferred to wear formal dresses. The most interesting
thing about him was his sense of humor, as I mentioned he was a sensitive
person, with lots of humor in his character.
We often had long conversations about
different facts of life, although in those conversations I was mostly on the part
of listener and he was taking the role of the speaker. His amazing ability to
narrate things seldom forced me to think if it was his age which endowed him
with such prolific sense and ability to narrate things in such a well framed
manner. He was a jovial personality, and quite enthusiastic as well to hold a long
conversation with our generations. Besides all, he was also a food lover, which
is one of the reasons I admired him for.
As I already said he had a different
personality, which was strong enough to persuade many, so in his every action
there was something charming that surprised me. The way he used to speak was
something bound to attract the attention of the listener. Since he had a
problem with his leg he had difficulties in walking and anything that may have required
him to put pressure on that leg. I still can visualize his appearance quite
well in my mind, the man with stunning personality, standing near his cabin and
rubbing his cheeks with a big smile on his face before starting a conversation
with any of us.
Needless to say that considering his vast
experience and his designation at our office, he was well respected by all of
us, leaving only a very few instances, where one might have had an issue with
him. His unexpected and perhaps undesirable departure suddenly intrigues a
thought in my mind, which is very important but I never regarded to give it a
serious contemplation before. Is it the word ‘replacement’ that is secretly
controlling our world? Like Susanta Kaku, who once had immense influence on his
professional life, is now in the page of replacement. With time in our office
everyone seems to have forgotten him due to their own issues. A person once with
sharp voice is now only a character that left a mark in my mind nothing more
than that?
