How rapidly our society and culture is changing
it can be easily understood by the ever-changing relationship between a teacher
and student of nowadays. It has always been considered that a teacher is the backbone
of a society. A teacher ushers the right path to a young generation on which
they walk for rest of their lives. We have all heard from our parents or
grandfather or grandmother that in earlier days the teaching profession was
highly regarded and teachers had huge respect in our society. The time has
genuinely changed a lot, teaching profession does not only have respect
attached to it now but also it is considered as an earning source. I am not
though sure, if teachers of this era really think so, but there is one thing I
am certain about that there is a class of people who definitely consider the
teaching profession just a medium of earning some money.
In fact couple of years ago when we were
growing up, we never had the courage to speak on the face of our teacher nor
could our parents indulge us to do so. Altogether the profession of teaching
was highly regarded by all. Yet, in the modern era when we are developing so
fast the relation between teachers and students does not hold the same essence
like past. Nowadays, students do not really care about skipping a class without
informing their teacher previously. Somewhere, the relation is now merely viewed
from the perspective of money. Not only parents but in the mind of students of
this generation a thought has been instilled that teachers are being paid for the
knowledge they impart to us. Hence that bonding or respect is largely missing
in the relation of a student and teacher of these days.
My personal experience, although it has been a
while that I engaged into teaching profession and that too not in that larger
perspective. However, from my personal experience I realized that unlike our
generation very few students of this generation possess true respect for their
teacher. Somehow the relation is only regarded from the perspective of giving
money and availability of teachers. I also felt that while trying to evaluate
the behaviour of a student, it is quite necessary to understand his or her family
background and socio-economic condition. By saying family background in no
means I made an endeavour to classify between rich or poor or highly class and
low class, all I tried to point out is the cultural and ethnic background of
the parents of a respective student belongs to. It is quite needed for students
of this generation to comprehend the value of a teacher in true means beyond any
creepy consideration. We must keep this in mind that a teacher alone is good
enough to bring the hope for a whole society.
