Significance of teachers in our society

In our life the significance or role of a teacher is immense and irreplaceable. It is believed that a teacher is the backbone of a society; because through the lesson and fundamental information that a teacher imparts to student/s, helps to build up the primary characteristic of the student/s. In the ancient days there were ‘Gurukuls’ and traditional education system, where students were accommodated in the house or a place and taught by a teacher or guru about the lessons of life. However, with time a lot of changes have been made in the traditional education system. In the contemporary time students are no longer required to stay in Gurukul, although the practice of residential education system still exists.

With time there has been a remarkable transformation that took place in the present days’ education system, online classes have been given more emphasize to spread education far across the sea and all geographical barrier of the nations. Despite all such reformation the basic structure of the education system remained the same, where teachers, who were previously known as gurus, teach the students in an organized and proper system. With the advent of computer, students are largely being benefited as it enables them to acquire knowledge without putting much effort. In some instances computer has also replaced the physical presence of a teacher and played a pivotal role in imparting or sharing knowledge among students.

Nevertheless, the importance of a teacher has remained almost the same in the society. Yet, in the modern world, somehow it has been felt that the basic duty of a teacher, which is to inculcate virtue and dignity in students through his or her own personality and longing to impart knowledge among students, is largely being compromised. One of the main reasons behind this undesirable approach of teachers is their wrong contemplation of the profession. Unlike past days when to a teacher building up the fundamental characteristics of a student was the salient fact alongside teaching the traditional lessons of schools, in the present days most teachers only care for their remuneration than any other aspect relating to this profession.

It is true that every human being need money to earn his or her daily living; so as a teacher. But, there are certain professions like teachers, doctors, police etc that demand more sincerity than any other profession. The basic reasons why the government run schools are gradually lagging behind are simply due to the inefficiency and lack of desire of the teachers to teach properly in school. Teachers are more concerned about their financial benefit than to withstand their dignity through their dedication in teaching. Therefore, eventually the teaching profession has also been lost its essence to the students and society.

Teachers should always bear it in mind that they are the pilot of our society. They have the power to steer the society towards progress and bring harmony in turn. A teacher should invariably make efforts to intrigue passion among the students instead of burdening the budding mind of the youth with unprecedented and unnecessary pressure of education. A student must feel comfortable in the education centre be it in school or private coaching classes. Each student should be given individual attention and likewise he or she has all the support to grow their potential to the fullest from the end of a teacher.
