A tribute to Satyajit Roy

Cinema has been regarded as one of the major entertaining medium for the society for a long period. With time there has been significant transformation in the concept or making of the film. However, the mass audiences consider certain criteria to simply evaluate the proficiency of any film director. In Indian film industry there have been many great directors and producers, who have produced innumerable popular movies in different languages. But, it is believed that despite all the major work of famous producers in the arena of cinema, no one could reach the stature that Satyajit Roy has achieved.

In his thinking or consideration there was a sheer touch of indigenousness that is regarded as the key of his success. Unlike many others, who considered their work beyond the general life and made films on several subjects that many of us may find difficult to relate; Satyjit Roy on the other hand, majorly gave importance to the rural life of Bengal while making his films. The simplicity and real perception of Satyajit Roy as a film maker drew mass to his creation. He did not only take Indian cinema to the world level but also inculcated a new concept in the film industry beyond the prevailing one.

It is believed that what Roy did in his time can never be overshadowed by any contemporary film maker. What really distinguished him from the rest was his versatile perception towards society and purview things from a different point of view. He quite successfully drew the attention of the audiences to film, by his dynamic approach to his work. The classic work of Roy should never be compared with the modern film directors, especially of Tollywood. Roy, Being a Bengali, invariably made endeavor almost in all his movies to delineate or portray the natural life style and culture of Bengal. On the other hand, if we bring the modern films in consideration to that undoubtedly there shall be no relevance between the two. The present film makers are mostly monotonous in nature and do not really think beyond the usual concept. Having said that I must mention that amongst all such average film makers; there are still quite a few personalities, who deserve a special mention here for their brilliance and ingenuity to deliver many good movies till date.

Nonetheless, the legacy that Satyajit Roy left behind as a film maker, above all as a writer shall always be remained at the forefront in the world of literature and entertainment. He had certainly made the Bengali film industry proud of his profound and remarkable contribution in the field of film industry. He shall be remembered as long as literature be there in our life.
