Significance of English as a language

There has been a long standing debate about the necessity to modernize the English syllabus of government schools, keeping the usefulness of the subject in mind. In the 21^st century English has been regarded as the global language worldwide. In fact, considering the vastness of our nation where, there are people of different background and caste who use different languages for communication; thus, the necessity to tie the nation under a common thread is largely felt. Therefore, English, as a global language should be given the most importance in our nation. Besides, in the modern day English has been used a common language for higher education and even the most government examinations and interviews are conducted in English. Moreover, English has been used as a common language in almost every sector, be it private or government.

Nonetheless, despite all the major factors, English as a language is yet to receive its due attention in the government schools of our nation. It is needless to say that in general, compared to a student of a government run school, a student of an English medium school certainly possess more confidence  at least when it comes to do anything related to English. Somewhere, deep inside, students of government schools possess certain apathy in their mind to learn English language. Perhaps, it is the teaching process that somewhere discerns this distinction between students of English medium school and government run schools.

There is although some disagreements between people about assessing the student of government schools from the perspective of their acquaintance with the English language. In one hand, some believe that irrespective of the school background a student’s success largely depends on his or her will to learn, whereas, on the other hand there is a class who think quite opposite. But in general, it is quite relevant to say that students from government school background find it utterly tough to cope-up with life as they eventually face the challenge of professional life. There are innumerable students who had passed out from a government run organization and although he or she had a higher degree like masters or graduation, still that person struggle immensely to write something in organize manner in English. There are obviously several exceptions, where we can see that students with government school background are quite successful in life. But such cases are very limited and those who mark themselves separate from the rest surely possess intense desire in them to progress in life.

Given the fact, if we now try to assess the issue, we would surely come to a conclusion where some significant changes are utterly desirable for the progress of government school’s students. First and foremost, English as a language has to be introduced at the very rudimentary level and based on classes the syllabus has to be changed. One thing need to be ensured that the education system should me formed in such a manner that would help the students to learn the language in a wholesome manner that would definitely help them in real life. In addition, it is also true that whatever we say but in the modern society one’s ingenuity to deal with the language in normal manner certainly illustrates the symbol of literacy or aristocracy for that person.
