Begging

Is begging just an option to earn a living or people are really forced to choose this way of gaining little money to live their lives? In our daily life we come across innumerable beggars on street, temple, bus and many other places. Some of them are really helpless and to an extent are forced to choose this profession for survival. On the other hand, we also see many kids, and elderly person, who are physically fit yet, have chosen begging as an occupation. People have different opinion about them, there are some benevolent people who really feel there is no harm to help the beggars irrespective of their situation, whereas some think that offering alms to beggars means to encourage them and many young kids to be lazy and choose this occupation.

It is indeed quite difficult to explain any explicit view on any of the particular sides, whether begging should be supported or not. Every day we see hundreds of physically challenged people and destitute kids are roaming around in local trains for few moneys. In some instances we must admit that there are people who are so helpless by physically or mentally that they can no longer work anywhere and therefore begging remains as the only means for them to sustain. However, there are people and young boys and girls and in some instances healthy men and women who also beg to earn their living. Here lies the main conflict that should these people who are physically healthy be helped or not?

From the perspective of a general man, anyone must differ against helping such people who are physically fit. Many of us might have also heard while travelling in local transportation that beggars should not be helped as long as they are physically competent to take up any work. But, now if we try to consider this fact with little more humanism, we may not act so harshly on them. Before, we are going to delve into any further judgment on the beggars who beg throughout their lives to earn their living, we just need to think about their lives with a little more compassion; and then perhaps we comprehend their lives more rationally than to be irrational. Unlike, the life of a general boy, most beggars had a challenging boy or girlhood where they are disrespected and humiliated at every step. They have to face huge obstacles for even the basic amenities of life and thus, having gone through that tough phase most of them lose hope to live a life of virtue that we general people can easily think about.

Nevertheless, it is also true that there are many beggars, who despite having all the potential to lead a decent life, still opt to stick to this profession of begging. It is because of such shameless people most of us prefer to keep our head away from the helpless beggars on street. But ignoring them can never be a feasible solution that can make our society a better place for all. It is utterly necessary to comprehend this sensitive issue with more concern and compassion; instead of ignoring them. If we can be kind to them and extend our helping hand, things can always have a chance to change and in turn make this world certainly a better place for all. Deprivation or ignorance can never be the key of success for any society, it’s our pure love and compassion that can surely paves a way to a better future for our society.
