‘Old age home’ is perhaps a word that most of us are quite familiar with; but in our society, mostly for the old parents, who are left to spend their rest of lives at this centre, this place is just like a dark and sticky cell. The sunlight could never brighten the room with its shining light where innumerable old men and women live. The pain, agony and sacrifice that a parents bare to grow a child is being overshadowed in a moment when we take the decision to send our parents to an old age home.
The days and night
all become gloomy and hopeless for them; in their tired eyelids a drop of tear
remains all the time that we offer them as a reward for all their lifelong
sacrifice for us. We separate them from their own place and send them to a dark
old when they need us the most. Time has definitely, as per the process, made
them weaker but the shock that they get from their very own blood; eventually
dampen all their hope to be alive anymore. They might not have ever imagined
that there shall come a day when they are being dethroned from their own
emperor. Nevertheless, life had a different planning for them; they are now
thrown into a dark shell that does not have any provision to usher the light of
hope in their lives any longer.
The weak hands and
tottering steps that time begot for the old parents now desperately look for
the support for the one, whom they have reared for so long. Yet, they know it
quite well that it shall only be a distance dream for them which shall never
come true. Life has indeed been harsh upon them, mostly, at the last part. They
often, recall the time, might be sitting under the shade of a Mango tree, ‘the
bygone days that they spent with their beloved son and daughter’, who has given
them such a fantastic reward for all the sacrifice they have made all their lives.
They know that the
bygone days shall never bring any happiness for them anymore but those moments
that were spent with their children, certainly brings about abundant of joy for
them. Their weak sight and dilapidated condition often illustrate things that
have no coherence with reality. They often day dream that their beloved child
has come to take them back home where they should stay at. Notwithstanding, their
full comprehension about the impossibility of the fact they seldom love to fool
themselves by such a foolish thought. They know that their final journey upon
their demise may begin for them from this very old age home, now the only
desire that they intensely possess in their shrinking mind is that ‘ their
beloved child must come to bid them goodbye at least for the last time’.
