An Honest Man

This story is about an honest man, who does not have the ability to walk or move around like me and you. On a wintery afternoon when I was going to my work after the lunch-break, my phone fell off my pocket without the least of my knowledge. Finally, when I reached there, I realized that I have lost my phone. In the evening when I at last, recovered the mobile from a nearby temple, the person who handed the phone over to me, told me that ‘A man who is physically challenged, got my phone from the nearby place and decided to keep it at the temple. And it was then that I came to know about the person, who had found my phone, and his struggle. Anyway, I did not have any chance to meet him that day so I just asked that person at the temple to ask the other man, who had found my phone to meet me the very next day.

Actually on the next day I was supposed to call the man of the temple so that I can meet the other person but due to heavy work pressure it totally slipped my mind about calling that person. The following day I got a call from the temple that the man who had found my phone, had come to meet me. I felt nice because I finally got the chance to say thanks to the person who had helped me to retrieve my mobile. But, to my utter surprise when I saw the man I could not extend my gratitude to him in words, I remained silent for a while and then finally spoke out. He was in his wheelchair; I asked him quite like nonsense, that ‘what do you do to earn your living?’ He just replied without any hesitation that ‘I am a beggar’, his reply had really shattered my ability to speak further. I again remained silent for a while and took my wallet out and offered him a very small token of money that might help him a bit to combat the struggle of life. He smiled and extended his weak hands to receive my offer. Although, he remained silent while receiving the money but his smile spoke a thousand words that were really beyond my comprehension.

In life, we come across plenty of people but some of them really leave their mark in our mind and for me this honest person has really a motivator. He taught me an impeccable lesson  about life. I hope he remains honest and happy forever, so do all of us.
