There are many people
who believe that giving alms to beggars especially those who are young and
physically fit is ultimately encouraging them to depend on others to fulfil
their need. Yes, to some extent I also support that opinion. If somebody is
physically not challenged and still beg for alms to earn their living we should
never help them with money. But there are also some people who think giving
alms to any beggar means ultimately wasting their money.
Nowadays we can see
that young married girls with a baby beg for money and they are few who have
introduced a new concept of begging. They just play popular Hindi songs in a
music system and travel around in local trains for money. Although, from the
perspective of any common person, who work hard to earn his/her living, would
never support to help somebody who despite healthy physic opted to beg.
However, given a proper thought about the lifestyles of the kids, who are being
forced by their family members to beg in the local trains, we will be bound to
change our perception to them.
Just imagine how
tough it is for a kid to roam around in trains in such a young age when they were
supposed to go to school. Like our children they never get the compassion and
love from their parents or family members. Life puts them into such an
uncomfortable zone that they feel vulnerable and helpless to withstand against the
harshness of life. From our point of view they seem to be lazy and dishonest
but if we try to envisage life from their vantage point of view perhaps we can
realize their situation quite well.
It is really easy to
blame them and pushed them away for their situation but our ignorance can no
way bring any change in the society. More than ignorance they need compassion
from us. We should embrace those destitute children and help them as we can. They
need food first then education thus, only wise words can never bring them to
the main stream of life. They must be provided with the basic amenities by us
and our government so that they feel alienated from our society.
