Despite the fact that English has been regarded as one of the most used languages in the world, still people of our society do not possess the passion to use English language in regular manner. Then, there is a class of people in our society, who being educated never encourage others to consider English as one of fundamental aspects of the modern era to progress. English is still deemed as a subject of extravagance factor by our society, it must be a common sight for many of us when an elderly middle aged man criticizing two young men for speaking English in public. Many feel that if the two people of the same region speak English as the medium of communication, avoiding their regional language then it is a matter of shame. But, needlessly to say that in the era of globalization when science and technology both are progressing hand in hand, it is really important to change our perception and develop one’s attitude towards English language.
There are intellectuals in Bengal whom I have observed on television, criticizing people for talking in English, as I have also cited above that still in our society English as a language holds the place of proficiency not necessity. We must realize that it is a language that has been involved at the very rudimentary level of our culture and therefore, it is desirable to master the skill in a more inherent manner than to just consider it as an ornamental aspect of one’s Bio-Data. I feel those, who possess apathy or are reluctant to adapt the English language more naturally, are simply pushing our society backwards.
While, the entire world is vastly relying upon this language there should be no more reason to fall behind to increase acquaintance with the language. It is bitterly painful that our society notwithstanding, so much of know-how about the modern technology, criticize people who wish consider the English language as a medium of communication for daily life. Moreover, we all are aware of the fact that be it of government job or private or any official work that require written elaboration on any issue are mostly prioritized to comply it with English language than any regional term.
Besides, if we notice English has been considered as a tool of classification in our society, there is prevailing stratification revolving the capability of one’s ability to speak English. And quite unfortunately, having known the reason of such filthy cause that dragged a line between upper class and lower class in our society, we silently enjoy the border of stratification than to make an endeavor to erase that invisible line by spreading English education and withholding the spirit of equality.
The last line is a bumper and pulls at our heartstrings. Moreover, your writing about English which holds fascination coupled with relevance in our lives is exactly how we feel. We can't even see ourselves segregated from this language. Its majesty is wide appealing and importance universal. As you rightly pointed out that if one needs to work towards improvement , he's got the only option of exploration now if one were to explore and meet people , accost new cultures where nothing one's grown up used to functions, then a clear knife would be run through his besom of dreams. So learning to adapt is the key. In this case it's ENGLISH. I'm sure by our sheer devotion and knowledge and unbridled rage towards development , some puny barriers such as you quote will be washed away like a mote of dust.
