Impact of Alcoohol on Youth Generation

The ritual of consuming “alcohol” in occasions has always been existed in our culture. In fact, back than during Mughal Empire or even before that alcohol consumption has been an integral part of the leisure life style.  With time, we have evolved our progress to an unbelievable level and also with that progress we have changed our perception towards things. Unlike, the past days, in the modern society alcohol to some extent signifies the class of people.

For an instance, in contrast to our culture of a decade or two ago, in the contemporary social phenomenon, the acceptance of alcohol has rapidly changed. Alcohol, now is being regarded the mark of class in our society. Thus, in turn, the consumption level of alcohol has likewise grown high among all class of people in Bengali families. Nevertheless, with this vast shift in our culture, it has also brought about great concern for us. The youth generation of this era is seemingly more interested to make alcohol a regular part of their life than a seldom habit for pleasure.

In the present phenomenon, in maximum Bengali families alcohol consumption during any celebration be it marriage or funeral, become a very common practice, which is according to me one of the major reasons for our youths to be so much addicted to alcohol. I am not saying that consuming alcohol is not good but all I am aiming to focus here is that it should not be given priority to set one’s priority in society.

It is indeed unfortunate that almost every year all of us come across some bad news, like either any of our neighbors or somebody, who was known to us or our friends, died in bike accident, while driving under the influence of alcohol. Mostly, it is the college students who become the easy victims of such awful incidents. Stepping into the adulthood, the youths begin to consider the world from their own point of view and their natural intuition to overcome any hazards with strong determination is often being misled due to lack of proper guidance.

On top of that often alcohol, certainly plays a negative role in the life-treating activities of our youths, like riding bike at high speed, taking selfies in front of a running train, and likewise makes their lives vulnerable. So we must need to ensure that our youths should not be over exaggerated about consuming alcohol. Besides, they also need to undergo regular counseling to grasp the true meaning and purpose of our life. They must realize the fact that alcohol is just like other drinks which possess certain taste in it and over consumption of it can endanger their life.

Consuming alcohol is never considered as a crime but over consumption of it and becoming too much addicted to it is never desirable. Alcohol, being a drink, should only be deemed as the means of some pleasure but not an inevitable part of our daily life.
