As a modern country undoubtedly
we are doing just fantastic. We are economically developing and gradually becoming
self-reliant. Crossing the barrier of the earth now we are discovering the secret
of other planets. However, despite our so much of progression we are yet to bring
peace in true sense in our social system. It is indeed a shameful fact for us that woman,
who only possess the quality to give birth, are no way safe in our society.
Almost every day in newspapers or
on television we come across news about the heinous crimes that is ‘rape’. It
seems with time the frequency of this factor is growing rapidly. In spite of
our worldwide appreciated behavior, India is no way regarded as a safe place
for women. The incident of Nirjala, in New Delhi, shook the entire world.
People from all backgrounds stepped forward in the demand of punishment of
those culprits. The intensity and agitation among young generation was at the
peak.
That phenomenon, to some extent brought
about some sort of sense of satisfaction in us. We started to believe that
perhaps after such mass revolution, incidents like rape or molestation will someway
get reduced. But in reality, it was our wrong interpretation about the
scenario, as there are plenty of rape cases including some of them are making
the headlines in the news papers quite often. Very recently, the rape case of a
five years old girl in Kashmir dragged huge attention.
It is true that print and
electronic Medias have been playing a major role to put light in every such
cases and indirectly trying to ensure that the victim should get justice. Yet, in
reality, many cases go unnoticed and unfiled simply due to the negligence of
our ill administrative system. It is indeed heart-breaking that along with
adult nowadays children of four, Five years are also being brutally raped and
killed by some animals in the image of human being of our society.
In rural areas where the families
are already suffering from their low income status and other difficulties of
lives, never really feel bothered when their daughter gets abducted and raped.
They neither feel it necessary to lodge a FIR for that. Besides, the fare of social
stigmas due to lack of education, withhold them to take any legal investigation
or help from local police stations. The hesitation of family members to reveal
the news of their daughter’s suffering indirectly encourages the criminals to
exploit the life of an innocent girl.
In order to take control over
such indiscipline activities our administration must strengthen and reform its
entire system. Action should be taken at every level, especially, in the remote
areas where print and electronic Medias are yet to penetrate their reach;
police must be super-active in those areas. Any suspected man should be detained
or interrogated in police custody upon receiving any primary complain from any family
or girl herself. Such beforehand intervention from police into any matter may also
help subdue any least possibility from any incident to take place.
Given a thought we will realize that
in maximum cases it is the known person or a group to the girl, who commit the
crime. Thus, it is also expected that considering the active sense of predictability
of girls, they can foresee the possible danger, but however, due to lack of
support from administrative level they remain silent. Here the generally enquiry
of police to any suspected group or man may prevent the possibility of the
incident and as ell save the life of a girl. It is also true that in some cases
it has also been found that girls mainly in cities exploit the laws in their favor
and harass many innocent persons. Hence, the police personnel have to be really
conscious and need to investigate every detail from its core to maintain peace
in society.
Girl’s safety has been the key
issue in our society for a long time and still we are very much far from
contemplating any satisfactory scenario in this regard. Anyway, considering the
fact that girls are an integral and pivotal part of our society we must take
all the possible steps to safeguard their independence.
